What is the Circuit?

The Melbourne Tango Circuit is a program of Special Edition tango activities that celebrates the talent, diversity and sociability of our much-loved Melbourne tango community. This is a community initiative curated by Melbourne Social Tango, in association with the established milonga and tango organisations of Melbourne.

The 7th Melbourne Tango Circuit – ‘Alegría – Share the Joy’ – will be held 22-29 October 2026 – a week-long celebration of Special Edition activities brought to you by the tango organisers of Melbourne.

This unique celebration brings together the best of Melbourne’s milongas, TDJs and artists, in a vibrant program curated by Melbourne Social Tango.

TIP: Check out the MST Gallery for images from the previous Circuits.

Who runs the Circuit?

Melbourne Social Tango has been collaborating with established milonga and tango organisations of Melbourne since 2019 to bring together a program that celebrates the talent, diversity and sociability of our unique Melbourne tango community.

TIP: Each year, a program theme connects all the events together, giving the Circuit a festive vibe.

When will the Circuit 2026 program be released?

The official Circuit Program will be released in September. We recommend booking your travel and accommodation early if you are joining us from outside of Melbourne and get ready to Alegría – Share the Joy!

The up-to-date Circuit events will be available online:  Melbourne Social Tango Calendar.

TIP: You can also subscribe to the Melbourne Social Tango Calendar and all events will be automatically added to your personal iCal, Outlook or Google calendar.

Where is the Circuit held?

Participating organisers have selected for their unique tango events in and around the city of Melbourne.

TIP: Details of each event will be advised in the program.

Do I need to register or book for Circuit events?

This is not a festival that requires registration, as each event is pay-as-you-go. The Circuit events are held on a ‘first in’ basis, as some venues have limited space. However, some event organisers will offer pre-booking, and will be provided on the program.

TIP: We recommend booking for events in advance, where possible, to avoid disappointment, as some events will have capacity limits.

Do I need to come with a partner?

Circuit participants are encouraged to come with other dancers.

Our mission is to support event organisers to create the best social tango environment possible for Circuit participants. However, each organiser is responsible for generating a balance of leaders and followers across dancers.

TIP: Plan social ‘meet and greet’ events as a great way to connect socially before dancing at the milongas.

What are the social codes and expectations at Circuit events?

Due to the growing popularity of the Circuit, some events can be very busy and we ask all dancers to apply the tango codigas and etiquette, to ensure a pleasurable experience for all.

TIP: Here are a couple of easy to read resources:

Can I take photos or video at the Circuit events?

Yes, but… please check with the event organisers and be considerate and discreet. People are there to dance. No flash, no big intrusive equipment e.g. tripods. Don’t take long videos. Stop if someone asks you not to include them in your film or photo. Don’t set up shots on the pista. Don’t interrupt the dancing.

TIP: Official photographs of the Circuit will be found on our website and Facebook pages.

What happens if an event is changed or cancelled?

The most up-to-date information on events will be on the organiser’s social media and will also be updated on the Circuit program as soon as possible.

Please contact the organiser if any refunds are available from pre-booked tickets as a result of cancellations.

TIP: Make sure to join the Melbourne Social Tango Facebook Group to be kept up-to-date with hot news.

What are the Terms and Conditions of the Circuit?

Events on the Melbourne Social Tango Program are presented by the individual tango organisers and are subject to change.

Melbourne Social Tango coordinates and promotes the program in good faith and cannot be held responsible for any inconvenience caused by changes, cancellations or incidents. By attending events listed in the Circuit program, participants accept these terms and conditions.
